Sacred Icons

In every icon we carry, the holy figures are dark-skinned. The gold stays bright; the darkness was a choice.

Seven of our pieces are icons: the Archangel Michael, the Ascension, the Baptism of Christ, the Burning Bush, the Dormition, Florus and Laurus, and Our Lady of the Sign. Icons follow old patterns, so the same scene reads the same across centuries and countries. In ours, the faces and hands are brown while the gold and the whites stay bright. Painter, date and origin unknown; each piece says so.
