Description

The WW9 “Denzil Dowell” Archive Boxy Tee

A question. A headline. A movement in print.

Denzil Dowell was a young Black man shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy in North Richmond, California, in April 1967. The Black Panther Party for Self-Defense took up his case, and the first issue of its newspaper, The Black Panther, dated April 25, 1967, led with the headline “Why Was Denzil Dowell Killed?”

The front of the shirt reproduces that newspaper front page in black ink: the masthead with its panther, the bold headline, columns of type and a portrait of Dowell, printed with DTG and no background box.

The Canvas:

This unisex boxy tee is made from 100% combed cotton (280g/m²). The heavyweight fabric gives the shirt a substantial vintage feel, while the drop shoulders and loose, boxy cut give a relaxed fit. Reactive-dyed for long-lasting color.

  • Crew neck with binding taped neck and shoulders
  • Drop shoulders, loose boxy silhouette
  • 100% combed cotton, 26 count plain weave
