The first peoples of this land were autochthonous: born of this soil, here before the paper.
Three of our pieces live here: the green Guatemala stamp with a woman in a feathered headdress, the Emerald Indian, a jeweled figure in a feathered crown carrying emeralds from South America, and the Caraïbes poster from Paris, where people of the Americas were put on display. The first nations of North, Central and South America were here long before the maps. Europe renamed them, painted them and put them on display. We put them back on the record.
