These are melanated faiths, carried across the ocean and never let go.
Our Festa de Yemanjá piece is this faith in one picture: the orixá of the sea, arms open, with fishermen bringing her offerings. Africans carried the orixás across the Atlantic in chains and never let them go. In Brazil they live on in Candomblé and Umbanda, in drums, songs, white clothes and gifts sent out on the water.
