Senegal's stamps crowned darkskin women as the face of the republic.
Our piece is a blue stamp from 2002: La Linguère, a smiling woman with braids, a headwrap and jewelry, SÉNÉGAL down the side and a Thiès postmark across it. Lingeer was the title of the royal women of the Wolof kingdoms: Jolof, Cayor, Baol and Walo. On the stamp, the title has a face, and she is smiling.
