Brazil counts most of its people as preto or pardo: one of the largest Black populations on earth.
Our Festa de Yemanjá piece comes from here: the queen of the sea in blue and black, fishermen in a canoe at her feet. Brazil took in more captive Africans than any nation in the Americas, and Africa never left. You hear it in samba, taste it in the food of Bahia, and see it every February on the beach in white.
