Festa de Yemanjá

Every February 2 / Rio Vermelho, Salvador, Bahia

The Festa de Yemanjá is Black faith in public, on the water.

Our piece is a poster in blue and black: FESTA DE YEMANJÁ across the top, the queen of the sea with arms spread wide and a fish's tail below, fishermen in a canoe at her waist and blue waves all around. Every February 2 in Rio Vermelho, Salvador, crowds in white carry flowers, perfume and gifts out to sea for her. Mãe preta da Bahia, the poster calls her: Black mother of Bahia.
