Our Thành Thái piece carries the dynasty's country in red: Đại Nam, the Great South. Gia Long founded the Nguyễn in 1802 and built the capital at Huế. By the 1880s France held the real power, and in 1945 the last emperor, Bảo Đại, gave up the throne.
