The mother and child on this stamp are melanated, and so is the protest.
Our piece is the 20-centime stamp: pink sky, bombs falling, warplanes overhead, flames behind a parent and child, and a peace sign at the center. LUTTE CONTRE LES ARMES NUCLÉAIRES runs up the side: fight against nuclear weapons. Rwanda issued the set in 1966, four years after independence. A young African nation telling the superpowers to stop.
