The woman on these stamps is an Indigenous queen of the Americas, aboriginal to this land.
Our piece is the green medio real, the ½ real: her face in an oval, a feathered headdress, pearls at her throat, laurel on both sides and CORREOS DE GUATEMALA across the top. The 1878 set ran from the ½ real up to 4 reales and 1 peso. Collectors call it the Indian woman issue. We call her what she is: a queen on the nation's mail.
