Description

The WW9 “Benin Bronze Plaque” Archive Boxy Tee

Craft. Court. A kingdom cast in metal.

The Benin Bronzes are thousands of brass and bronze sculptures and plaques made by guild artists for the royal court of the Kingdom of Benin, in what is now Edo State, Nigeria. Many of the plaques, cast mostly in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, once decorated the royal palace. In 1897 a British military expedition looted Benin City and took thousands of these works, which are now held in museums around the world; some have since been returned to Nigeria. Which plaque this is, and where it is held, isn’t identified here.

The design shows the cast plaque in relief, with a central figure surrounded by attendants, printed in its natural bronze tones with DTG and no background box.

This unisex boxy tee is made from 100% combed cotton (280g/m²). The heavyweight fabric gives the shirt a substantial vintage feel, while the drop shoulders and loose, boxy cut give a relaxed fit. Reactive-dyed for long-lasting color.
